Invention: FLEXI SNAP
FLEXISNAP: A way to combat food insecurity on campus
Invention Mission: Ending food insecurity at USFCA. Witnessing the food insecurity crisis first hand + Dealing with excessive meal plans.
Target Audience: Low Income Students at USFCA
Hunger in San Francisco
1 in 4 San Franciscans are prone to hunger due to low income. Food insecurity rates are at an all time high for college students reaching around 40% including at the University of San Francisco.
Impact
Restricted access to quality and nutritious food at USF negatively impacts students’ health, education, and employment. On a larger scale, it impacts the sustainable economic growth of a nation.
Solution
All students including those with or without meal plans can apply for Food Insecurity Assistance at USF to afford more nutritious meals at the campus dining halls.
Students can apply to become a Flexi Fairy. A "flexi fairy" is someone that has excess dollars left on their meal plans which can be donated to another student in need.
